He understands and values the importance of Physical
Education and sport and how this can develop life long skills and confidence.
Jack passionately believes that with right skills and support everyone can access sport and physical activity. His approach to the curriculum is, skills being taught through sports, which allows children to develop confidence in activities whilst exploring a range of sports. He believes that sports and active communities create a sense of belonging for young people. He has worked to ensure pupils have a chance to explore and experience sport and physical activity beyond the school day, with pupils feeling that sport and physical activities are an important part of our school identity.

Vision
Throughout Jenny Hammond Primary School we strive to develop skills which can be applied in a range of sports and develop opportunities to help create athletes for now and the future. We believe that Physical Education, experienced in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, is a vital contributor to a child’s physical development and well-being. We believe that a broad and balanced P.E curriculum is essential to provide children with the skills to manage their movement in an active lifestyle and to increase self confidence. At Jenny Hammond Primary School we believe that physical education should be an area of learning where self-esteem, physical progression and positive attitudes to being active and healthy are fostered and nurtured.
At Jenny Hammond Primary School we aim to provide children with a broad and balanced P.E (Physical Education) curriculum; this follows the skills based focus of the National Curriculum and aims to:
- Develop children's love for sport and being active.
- Teach skills through sports that they will be required to use throughout life, including communication, teamwork and respect.
- Provide regular opportunities for children to compete and represent the school.
- Enable children to apply the skills they have developed into competition in school and outside of school.
- Empower children to take responsibility for their health and move forward leading healthy and active lifestyles.
"Sport at our school is very important because it helps you to be very healthy and fit. Also our school does a lot of sports events to encourage others." Kattaleya - Year 6 Pupil
How we Teach PE at JHPS
Our programme of learning has been mapped out so that children in EYFS learn fundamental movement, traveling, balancing, catching, sending and striking. In KS1 pupils continue to develop these skills through half termly sports, teaching them that there is a purpose to their learning. In KS2, pupils begin to apply their skills through tactics and decision making and begin to evaluate both their own and other performance. During lessons pupils are taught to reflect on the importance of being active and understanding how different skills can help them to take part in other sports, such as balancing skills developed in gymnastics can help you to play basketball.
Our curriculum is structured so that students can showcase their learning in end of unit events and competitions in school and apply them in fixtures, events and competitions outside of school allowing them to belong and thrive in the subject.
